Understand the record being prepared

The U.S. Courts describes the presentence investigation as work probation performs to inform sentencing. Your preparation should support accurate information rather than scripted answers or a predicted result. Confirm the interview arrangements and counsel’s role. Organize personal history and source records early enough to identify missing dates and unresolved financial questions.

Reconcile business and personal finances

Separate business ownership, personal income, liabilities and restricted assets. Preserve the documents showing each figure and avoid treating business revenue as personal disposable income. Identify jointly held property and uncertain valuations for counsel and qualified professionals. The financial file should be complete and candid, not engineered to support a preferred impression.

Align chronology with the reviewed case record

The personal account must not silently contradict agreed facts or omit known issues. Identify discrepancies for counsel before drafting an explanation. Keep firsthand knowledge distinct from assumptions about other participants. SAG can help organize the chronology and prepare factual questions; counsel determines legal positions and how the offense should be discussed.

Review accuracy before submission

Use a checklist for names, dates, employment, treatment, dependents and financial source references. Keep a record of corrections requested through counsel and the materials supporting them. A polished narrative cannot compensate for inaccurate underlying facts. The goal is a reviewable preparation file that supports counsel’s work and the individual’s practical readiness.

Continue your preparation

Does SAG write or control the official PSR?

No. Probation prepares the official report. SAG helps with a defined preparation assignment coordinated with counsel.

Sources and a defined preparation assignment

Official context: U.S. Courts: Presentence Investigations. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Program resources and historical oversight reports do not decide an individual case. Counsel evaluates the applicable law, dates and facts.

Work directly with Joseph to define the scope, authorized recipients and review dates. Agreed deliverables can include a personal and professional chronology, indexed supporting records, factual questions for counsel and a practical preparation schedule. SAG does not manage legal responses or provide forensic accounting. An engagement does not automatically establish privilege.
