Preserve the communication as received

Keep the letter, email, subpoena or request with attachments, delivery information and stated deadlines. Identify who sent it and in what capacity. An insurer and a government agency may be conducting different processes. Counsel should assess the actual document rather than relying on an informal description of the matter.

Create a source-based contact history

Record dates, participants and the basis for each entry. Separate contemporaneous records from later recollection. Keep unanswered questions visible. A contact log can help counsel understand the sequence, but it does not decide whether or how to respond to an interview or document request.

Inventory the claim materials

List policies, applications, submissions, photographs, estimates, receipts and relevant communications that are lawfully available. Identify missing periods and custodians. Counsel should direct preservation and collection. Do not alter a source file or access another person’s account to make the inventory appear complete.

Define the nonlegal preparation work

SAG can organize background, professional responsibilities and the practical calendar. Counsel controls legal positions and responses. The assignment should identify who receives working materials and what requires a qualified specialist. Preparation must fit the actual stage without assuming admissions or a particular result.

Does an insurer’s request establish a criminal charge?

No. Preserve the exact request and have counsel assess its meaning, status and response obligations.

Sources and professional scope

Official background: FBI: Investigating Insurance Fraud and NAIC: Insurance Fraud. Sources checked November 6, 2026. These sources provide general context; counsel evaluates the actual jurisdiction, charge and applicable law. No historical statistics are used to predict an individual outcome.

A defined SAG assignment can include a personal chronology, indexed records, factual questions and preparation calendar. Counsel controls legal advice, responses and submissions. SAG is not a law firm, insurance adjuster, valuation provider or forensic accounting service. An engagement does not automatically establish privilege.

Based in New Jersey, SAG serves clients nationwide, with travel arranged for cases. No sentence, placement, release date or financial result is guaranteed.
