Identify the agreement in force

Preserve the signed agreement, amendments and relevant dates. Distinguish a draft from an executed version. If the parties used different versions, identify that issue rather than silently selecting one. Counsel evaluates contractual and legal significance; the preparation file should make the document history easy to follow.

Connect billing to documented work

Organize available work product, delivery records, time records or other evidence relevant to the invoice. State what each source shows and where gaps remain. An invoice alone may not describe actual performance. Avoid making a retrospective document look like a contemporaneous business record.

Reconcile the payment sequence

Keep the amount billed, amount paid, date, payer and recipient separate. Note credits, refunds and adjustments with their sources. A discrepancy may have an explanation, but the working file should not invent one. Qualified financial review may be needed where multiple entities or periods are involved.

Explain your actual responsibility

Identify whether you negotiated, prepared, approved, processed or merely received the document. Preserve instructions and changes in responsibilities. SAG can organize the individual account and source index so counsel can assess the relationship between a person’s work and the financial records.

Continue your preparation

Should missing business records be recreated as originals?

No. Keep any later reconstruction clearly labeled with its date, preparer and sources; counsel should direct the review.

Sources and a defined preparation assignment

Official context: U.S. Code: 18 U.S.C. § 1956. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Counsel evaluates the law and the manual applicable to the individual facts and dates. These preparation steps do not determine criminal liability or a sentencing calculation.

Work directly with Joseph to define deliverables, authorized recipients and review dates. An assignment may include a personal and professional chronology, source index, factual review questions and practical preparation calendar. SAG is not a law firm or forensic accounting provider. An engagement does not automatically establish privilege.
