Identify the actual request

Begin with the document or contact you received, not a news story about another borrower. Record the agency or lender, recipient, date, deadline and requested action. A lender review and a criminal charge are different events. Retain qualified federal defense counsel to assess your status and direct responses. Preserve the original notice and avoid treating an informal description as the complete request.

Reconstruct each loan separately

Create a separate file for each borrower entity, application, loan number and round of funding. Include application versions, supporting records, disbursement dates, correspondence and any forgiveness determination. The person who supplied a figure may differ from the person who entered or certified it. Identify those roles from records and firsthand knowledge rather than assigning responsibility from titles alone.

Connect the financial history to the person

A loan file does not explain every part of an individual’s history. Prepare a dated account of employment, ownership, family responsibilities and actual business duties. Clearly distinguish what you knew at the time from what you learned later. SAG can organize that chronology and its supporting index while counsel addresses allegations, investigative responses and legal strategy.

Use a defined preparation sequence

Start with intake and scope, then build the chronology and source inventory, identify factual gaps for counsel, and agree on next review dates. If a plea or conviction makes sentencing preparation necessary, extend the record to personal history, documented accountability, financial disclosure and practical plans. Do not assume that an investigation must end in a charge or that a completed preparation file controls the outcome.

Continue your preparation

What should I send for an initial case review?

Your role, current stage, next deadline and whether counsel is involved. Do not send loan documents, account numbers or privileged advice through the initial inquiry form.

Sources and a defined preparation assignment

Official context: SBA COVID-era program resources. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Program resources and historical oversight reports do not decide an individual case. Counsel evaluates the applicable law, dates and facts.

Work directly with Joseph to define the scope, authorized recipients and review dates. Agreed deliverables can include a personal and professional chronology, indexed supporting records, factual questions for counsel and a practical preparation schedule. SAG does not manage legal responses or provide forensic accounting. An engagement does not automatically establish privilege.

SAG serves clients nationwide from New Jersey, with travel arranged for cases. SAG is not a law firm. No charging decision, sentence, placement or release date is guaranteed.
