Southern District of Florida Federal Sentencing Strategy
Facing federal sentencing in the Southern District of Florida? Sentencing Advocacy Group helps defendants organize mitigation evidence, prepare for the presentence investigation, and plan for custody and reentry. Work directly with Joseph De Gregorio on a preparation plan tailored to your circumstances, with coordination with defense counsel where appropriate.
What should you prepare for a federal sentencing in South Florida?
Begin with your personal circumstances and verifiable actions. For a healthcare professional, business owner, or financial executive, relevant preparation may include treatment records, employment history, documented compliance changes, family responsibilities, and financial information for counsel’s review.
The district has court locations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Pierce, and Key West. Your assigned division and court schedule should guide preparation and logistics.
SAG serves clients nationwide from its New Jersey base. This page describes services for South Florida cases; it does not represent that SAG maintains a Florida office.
What is the SDFL U.S. Attorney’s current fraud-enforcement focus?
The office’s Criminal Division describes work involving healthcare fraud and complex financial fraud, including investment, securities, mortgage, tax, and large-scale mail and wire fraud.
On September 9, 2026, federal and state enforcement leaders held the inaugural Florida Anti-fraud Task Force meeting. The announcement described attention to fraud involving federal benefit programs and interagency coordination and information sharing.
SAG’s preparation response is to focus on specific records rather than broad assurances. For a healthcare case, for example, a client may need to organize information about actual responsibilities, oversight, training, and documented changes for counsel’s assessment. Your attorney determines the legal significance of that material.
Is FDC Miami the same as FCI Miami or a federal prison camp?
No. FDC Miami is an administrative detention facility. FCI Miami is a separate low-security institution with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. These are not interchangeable facilities; consult the Bureau of Prisons institution directory.
Confirm your actual holding or surrender location through counsel and official instructions. Planning should address necessary medical information, family responsibilities, and communication with counsel.
A sentence imposed in South Florida does not promise placement at FCI Miami or a camp. The Bureau of Prisons considers security, programming, and other factors when making designation decisions.
How does Joseph’s 75% EDNY reduction experience translate to a Florida case?
Joseph’s own EDNY case involved an advisory guideline range of 41–51 months and a sentence of one year and one day, without a cooperation agreement. His approximately 75% reduction description compares that sentence with the upper end of the range. He served 125 days in federal custody before transitioning to home confinement.
The transferable experience is practical preparation: an accurate personal history, documented change, a considered approach to the PSR process, and a plan extending beyond the sentencing hearing.
For a Florida case, the work is tailored to the individual. That may mean organizing healthcare responsibilities, financial records, treatment documentation, and realistic employment plans while counsel determines the governing law and sentencing arguments.
An EDNY result is not a sentencing benchmark for a Florida judge. Joseph’s time in custody does not establish another person’s eligibility for a reduction, credit, or transfer.
How can SAG help with RDAP, FSA credits, and reentry questions?
Explore SAG’s resources on RDAP eligibility, First Step Act earned time credits, and early release and reentry planning.
Preparation focuses on truthful records, treatment participation where appropriate, and practical housing and employment plans. Eligibility and application depend on individual circumstances. A sentence reduction, program credit, and placement in home confinement are distinct issues.
