Work from filed documents

Preserve the charging document, court notices and counsel’s instructions. Record dates and identify the source of each obligation. A news report may summarize allegations but does not replace the actual filing. Counsel explains the charges and legal options; your preparation should identify factual questions rather than attempt to litigate the case independently.

Create a deadline and responsibility list

Separate court dates from internal review dates and practical tasks. Identify who owns each task and what source confirms the deadline. A generic website cannot establish your case schedule. Keep changes dated and confirmed so family members and the preparation team do not rely on an obsolete plan.

Begin accurate personal-history work

Within counsel’s agreed scope, organize employment, education, family responsibilities and treatment records. Clarify inconsistent dates and locate missing sources. Early organization does not require predicting a plea or trial result. It gives the legal team a reliable foundation if later decisions make sentencing preparation appropriate.

Plan around actual conditions

Identify confirmed restrictions affecting work, travel, communications and business responsibilities. Counsel handles legal questions and requests concerning those conditions. SAG can organize practical plans and supporting material without giving legal direction. Keep proposed arrangements separate from approved ones and avoid making promises to others that depend on uncertain outcomes.

Continue your preparation

Should my family rely on a generic court timeline?

No. Use the actual notices and counsel’s guidance. Keep a dated calendar with sources and responsible contacts.
