Fund Managers Under Federal Investigation: Entities, Valuations and Personal Records

A fund manager’s personal record should not be confused with the records of every fund, adviser or portfolio entity. Start by identifying the actual entities, periods and responsibilities.

Make the entity structure understandable

List the management company, adviser, funds, special-purpose vehicles and relevant service providers from reliable records. Identify dates, appointments and ownership information without assuming control from a name alone. A diagram can help navigation, but it should not imply a legal relationship that counsel has not confirmed.

Preserve valuation and reporting history

Keep valuation dates, source data, methodology descriptions and approval records where available and authorized. Distinguish an estimate from a realized sale and an internal draft from a statement sent to investors. Later restatements or corrections should remain linked to the original version rather than replacing it without explanation.

Separate fees, allocations and personal benefit

Management fees, performance allocations, payroll, distributions and transfers may appear in different records. Preserve their source labels and dates. Counsel and financial experts evaluate what the transactions mean legally and economically. SAG does not render valuation opinions or decide whether a transfer represents unlawful benefit.

Document individual and family responsibilities

Record changes in authority, current employment, professional restrictions and practical household obligations. If sentencing preparation becomes appropriate, develop a complete personal chronology and evidence of actual corrective work. The engagement can provide counsel with an organized supporting file and unresolved questions while preserving the distinction between legal analysis and preparation support.

Sources and the next preparation question

SEC: How Investigations Work. Source checked November 5, 2026. Counsel evaluates the governing law and individual facts.

Can SAG value a fund or calculate legal liability?

No. Those questions require the appropriate legal and financial professionals. SAG can organize agreed records and the individual’s preparation materials.

A defined preparation assignment

Work directly with Joseph to establish the scope, source records, authorized recipients and review dates. Agreed deliverables can include a personal-history chronology, an indexed supporting file, factual questions and a practical preparation schedule. Investigation-stage legal decisions require qualified federal defense counsel. An engagement with SAG does not automatically establish privilege.

SAG serves clients nationally from Freehold, New Jersey, with travel arranged for cases. Share your stage and next deadline in the initial inquiry. Do not upload investigative records, investor details or privileged advice.
