Separate the financial issues
A large proposed total may combine several loans, entities, periods and participants. Identify the source calculation and the questions counsel needs answered. Keep loan-level schedules and recovery records available. Do not replace legal analysis with a comparison to another defendant’s sentence, since different facts and proceedings can produce different outcomes.
Explain the individual chronology
Document your actual responsibilities, decisions and knowledge over time. Include changes in ownership, employment, authority and access. A broad organizational narrative can obscure both important actions and legitimate distinctions. Preserve the records supporting your account and identify gaps candidly. Counsel determines how the facts relate to the legal issues and any admissions.
Develop evidence of sustained work
Where appropriate to the case and counsel’s direction, organize verified treatment, education, compliance changes, employment and service. Record dates, attendance and actual implementation. A plan is different from completed work. Avoid presenting activity undertaken for sentencing as proof of an outcome it cannot guarantee; the record should let the reviewer assess what occurred.
Set a preparation calendar
Work backward from known interview, report and hearing dates. Assign responsibility for financial sources, personal history, character support and practical plans. Resolve conflicting dates and unsupported statements before materials reach counsel for final review. SAG’s deliverables can include the chronology, indexed file and preparation schedule, with scope adjusted to the case.

Can another large-loss case predict my sentence?
No. Use the applicable law and your actual record with counsel. Public cases are not reliable sentence forecasts for a different person.
Sources and a defined preparation assignment
Official context: U.S. Sentencing Commission: 2026 Guidelines Manual. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Program resources and historical oversight reports do not decide an individual case. Counsel evaluates the applicable law, dates and facts.
