Start with the actual document
Preserve the notice, warrant, order or filing and identify its date, issuing authority and stated deadlines. A seizure notice and final forfeiture order are different records. Counsel should evaluate the procedural status and any required response. Do not infer the outcome from a press release or an account alert.
Build an asset schedule with sources
Identify each listed asset, the source describing it and any stated ownership or value. Keep disputed information and valuation dates visible. A working schedule should not decide a third party’s rights or treat an estimate as a final value. Qualified legal and financial review may be necessary.
Track changes in status
Record known custody, sale, release or disposition events with their documents. Keep amounts and dates separate. Do not assume that seizure alone satisfies restitution or determines the final financial obligation. Counsel evaluates how the different processes interact in the individual matter.
Coordinate practical information
Restrictions may affect ordinary household or business planning. Organize accurate current resources and documented obligations for counsel’s review. SAG does not direct asset transfers, take custody of funds or advise how to avoid an order. Its role is a clear source inventory and practical preparation record.
Continue your preparation
Does a seized asset automatically reduce restitution?
Do not assume that. Preserve the actual orders and distribution records and ask counsel how the processes affect the obligation.
Sources and a defined preparation assignment
Official context: Department of Justice: Asset Forfeiture Policy Manual. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Counsel evaluates the law and the manual applicable to the individual facts and dates. These preparation steps do not determine criminal liability or a sentencing calculation.

An assignment may include a personal and professional chronology, source index, factual review questions and practical preparation calendar. SAG is not a law firm or forensic accounting provider.
