Compassionate Release Screener

Identify documentation and procedural questions for a qualified legal review.

A documented question for legal review.

Compassionate release under 18 U.S.C. §3582(c)(1)(A) is a court decision. Administrative prerequisites, extraordinary and compelling circumstances, public safety and the sentencing factors all matter. A qualifying concern does not guarantee relief.

The 2025 policy statement addresses medical, age, family and abuse circumstances, and other comparably serious reasons. Rehabilitation alone is insufficient. Claims based on changes in law or unusually long sentences require particular attention to controlling circuit law. A simple questionnaire cannot resolve those legal issues.

SAG can assist with post-sentencing preparation and reentry planning. Qualified counsel evaluates legal grounds and court filings.
