Separate the alleged scheme from your chronology

An allegation may describe a long period and many participants. Build your own dated account of employment, involvement, communications and actual decisions. Do not copy a broad company history and label it your personal role. At the same time, do not omit difficult facts because they do not fit a preferred narrative. Counsel needs a candid record.

Track entry, changes and departure

Identify when you joined an entity or project, when duties changed and when activity ended. Preserve contracts, messages and other contemporaneous sources. A formal departure date may not explain every later communication, and a start date may not establish knowledge of earlier events. Record the facts without treating those dates as automatic legal boundaries.

Distinguish knowledge from inference

Label firsthand recollection, documentary evidence and information learned later. If you infer another person’s motive or knowledge, identify it as an inference rather than fact. A chronology should reveal uncertainty, not conceal it. Counsel evaluates the applicable legal standards and how individual facts relate to the allegations.

Connect the record to preparation priorities

SAG can organize individual responsibilities, professional history, documented accountability where appropriate and practical plans. Joseph’s Law360 work on crypto-conspiracy sentencing, linked through the publication column, offers a related preparation question: how is the individual understood within a larger matter? It is authored analysis, not a prediction or an endorsement by the publisher.

Continue your preparation

Does a company-wide allegation establish every individual’s role?

No individual chronology should be assumed from a company-wide description. Counsel evaluates actual conduct and applicable law; preparation should accurately identify the person’s own actions and knowledge.

Sources and a defined preparation assignment

Official context: U.S. Sentencing Commission: 2026 Guidelines Manual. Sources checked November 6, 2026. Counsel evaluates the applicable law, dates and individual facts.

Work directly with Joseph to define the scope, authorized recipients and review dates. Agreed deliverables can include a personal and professional chronology, indexed supporting records, factual questions for counsel and a practical preparation schedule. SAG does not manage legal responses or provide forensic accounting. An engagement does not automatically establish privilege.
