Locate the calculation under review
Start with the actual schedule or document proposing the loss amount. Record its author, date, transactions and assumptions. Preserve earlier versions. A total in an indictment, a press release and a sentencing calculation may serve different purposes; do not treat them as interchangeable without counsel’s review.
Identify the included population
Record the entities, customers, accounts and time periods represented. A business-wide figure may require separate analysis from an individual’s sentencing issues. Do not decide relevant conduct from your own preferred date range. Present the facts and scope questions to counsel with the records needed to evaluate them.
Keep recoveries and value records available
Organize documented refunds, repayments, recovered assets and performance evidence, with dates and sources. Counsel determines their legal treatment. Do not automatically deduct every item or assume that economic value claimed by one party has been established. Preserve disputes and limitations clearly.
Coordinate the financial and personal files
A source-backed financial schedule and a personal chronology answer different questions. Keep them consistent on dates and roles while preserving their distinct purposes. SAG can organize the individual account and index. Qualified counsel and financial specialists handle legal calculations and opinions; no prepared schedule guarantees a lower sentence.

Are sentencing loss and restitution necessarily identical?
No. Keep the calculations and their supporting assumptions separate, and ask counsel how the applicable rules affect each.
